One thing that’s undeniable about the fashion week experience is that most people’s healthy eating habits go out the window. Shows start early, you got up even earlier to answer emails, just about managed to get a coffee in, but don’t eat anything proper until much much later in the day when your body demands bad carbs and sugar now for that quick energy jolt and you end up eating something highly regrettable.
Because apart from sleep, there’s no more important factor towards individual wellbeing than nutrition, we’ve rounded up a few of our go-to healthy eating spots where you can quickly get something in and be out the door in under half an hour. And as some of us are paleo, some keto, some vegan, and some of us are just incredibly picky, we’ve focused on places where you can satisfy all these healthy eating profiles. Starting with…
All-around-fave: Dr Smood
We’re at the Soho location at Greene and Broome every day when we’re in NYC, especially during fashion week. Unlike other juice bars, Dr Smood offers full meal options. They have chic looking sandwiches (we like the Power Tuna) and avo toast (all is on spelt bread), cold-pressed juices that give you life, and a Golden Mylk Latte (turmeric, black pepper, raw honey elixir) which has revived us on many occasions. Bonus: it’s loved by models and industry insiders, so while it doesn’t help momentarily escape the scene, it’s quite the style inspiration hub. It’s also very pretty and a great spot to work from. Leave with some protein balls to stash in your bag, and a bottle of Alkaline Water.

Located in Park Slope, not far from the Brooklyn Museum, an increasingly popular NYFW venue, Bowl & Blade has a streamlined menu with poke bowls, salads with protein, and of course, smoothies. Grains and carbs are swappable with kale, veggie noodles, and all things are highly customizable, to suit your own optimal version healthy.

Big-salad love: Tender Greens
When you’re starving, there’s nothing better than a really big salad with adequate protein and that little piece of grilled bread you wouldn’t normally have, but. Enter California transport Tender Greens, which has a Mediterranean Steak Salad, Chipotle Chicken and the silkiest Tuna Nicoise. You can also get their signature fried chicken with a salad for the ultimate naughty-and-nice plat.

Oft-overlooked: Citarella
The uptown gourmet goods emporium has expanded, and while not be the most obvious choice for a quick bite, it behooves us to recommend them for their takeaway sushi (which is exceptional and great value) and their summer rolls, which we subsist on. They have a salmon summer roll and an avocado summer roll for vegans/vegetarians, which are strangely addictive. Their new Hudson Yards location has an amazing hot bar too, so you can mix it up.

Can never go wrong: Whole Foods
When all other well-meaning plans fail, when you need to eat, but also need to buy supplements and sachets to save your life and revive your soul, Whole Foods is it. We don’t need to sell you on its many merits, but it’s worth pointing out that there is no other place where you can load up healthy fare and also add in a sneaky scoop of mac and cheese.
